Paper Mache Paste Recipe - Cheap, Easy and Strong!

This paper mache paste is so easy, it's almost cheating to call it a recipe. It's fast, it's strong, and it works as well as any other paste recipe I've tried.

The only problem with this paste is that it isn't transparent when it dries, like the cooked flour and water paste, so you won't want to use it if the paper itself will be the final surface of your sculpture, with no paint covering it. And, obviously, if you have a wheat or gluten allergy, you won't be able to use this recipe. But I've been using this paste recipe for years, and it's still my favorite. Heck, it's even the recipe that Dan Reeder uses for his famous monsters, so I'm in good company. :)

Hi Jonni - 60 years ago we used this recipe at school to make the paste - there's never been a better. Look forward to following your work online and in the books. Thank you so much for this gift.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. It’s what I have been doing for years, but I never used the blender. I especially am pleased that you do the same thing. I prefer the lazy method as well. Have great day.

Oh my gosh WAYYYY simpler recipe than what I have seen. I mean one woman might as well just included the step for cutting down the tree for her paper that was all that was missing, forgetaboutit! Thanks for showing us simple HI5

Thank you so much for all of your informative videos. I dabbled with paper mache once in 2016. I'm doing a new sculpture and realized That paper mache would work best. I already went through your website and now I'm watching your videos. These are so great!! 🥰

I love this video! It's so encouraging to know you can make a good paste so easily! I'm wondering though, if I mix in strips of newspaper along with the paste with the immersion blender, can I somehow create a thicker clay type material that will work to sculpt with too? Love your videos!

I love watching you create and all your beautiful work! It is very relaxing! I do have a question??? I am making a horse head display for my handmade horse tack I make. I bought a plastic horse head and want to use it as a mold. I have seen techniques that cover the object with plastic wrap then use wide tape over it to make a base design/form. I planned on trying that and cutting it off the head then paper mache over that form. Would you stuff it with something to give it more structure? I will probably need a good bit of paper mache cuz this will be horse size. How do you prevent mold? Is it using the hot water instead of cold or do you add some salt? Thanks for any advice! I bought your horse head form and made a horse head hat for a Kentucky derby party a few years ago! Turned out fabulous! You did such an excellent job on the pattern that I didn’t really have to do much sculpting with the clay! Awesome job!! Tanks again!
