With Microsoft making the rounds talking with different outlets the question came up if there would be a mid gen refresh console similar to last generation.

The Xbox Series X is a powerful console and there is no need for any mid gen fefresh consoles this gen.
The biggest issue is many developers need to optimize for current gen PS5 and Xbox Series X and finally leave last generation behind.

I don't think 30 fps will go away. They just increase the graphics every generation.

The reasons the Xbox One and PS4 got updated models is those consoles launched with weak specs in 2013 (namely the CPU), as well as how quickly 4k monitors became mainstream. 8k monitors are still at least half a decade off being mainstream, which by then we will have the Xbox 5 and PS6.

John's last point sums it up nicely. With everything that's been pushed advertised, and "sold" to us - we haven't really seen anything much different from the last generation. I think they ALL need to focus on performance/optimization for all these games that we've gotten, are getting, and will get. Everything is underperforming at best or launching broken outright... on "BETTER" hardware.

I just got a series x a year ago. If a mid gen console came out i probably wouldnt care. Im good with what i have.

A mid gen refresh is very unlikely this generation. The Xbox Series X is already powerful enough, and now most people can buy their console after 2 1/2 years of waiting through shortages. Releasing a new console this short into the generation would be a big middle finger to the people who had to wait this long just to buy one of these consoles.

We need a system that can play Starfield at 60fps.

As an owner of an Xbox series S and X. The thing that stands out to me is that we don’t need a new system when the games for the current ones aren’t up to par on graphics and FPS. Seems like a new system would be “ cart in front of the horse”

I think Microsoft and Sony both jumped the gun with the wild claims of 8k or 120 FPS out of these consoles. I think it’s clear to most at this point that’s not actually possible on this generation of consoles. Nor is it needed. I would like them to nail native 4K 60 FPS and then we can worry about going higher.

It seems crazy doing pro consoles when we still have cross generational games being released and there are very few major titles that really showcases either console

I feel like the games of this gen havent really pushed the PS5 or the XSX yet. It seems way too early to get pro versions. I think the power and speed they need is already there--the developers just need to optimize/polish their games to the hardware. I haven't bought a PS5 yet but I am hoping we'll get a slim version cuz I think the current PS5 is too big and looks kinda dumb.

'Sales of the Xbox Series X have increased by 1, 335% on Amazon after the Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct'
According to some french news site

Totally down for a 1tb Series S. Good price, very convenient.

They need to make more games for the systems we already bought. This is the first console generation that doesn't even feel like there is new system's out

They don't need a mid gen refresh and that article stating a mid gen refresh usually happens 3 years into a consoles life cycle is misleading, as that only happened for the PS4 and Xbox One. There was never a mid gen refresh in any generation of console prior to PS4 and Xbox One and the only reason they did it was because 4k TVs became a lot more mainstream so there was a demand for 4k capable consoles - we already have that in PS5 and Xbox Series X so the reason to do a mid gen refresh isn't there.

I don't see the value of a pro version anymore. Doesn't feel like the power jump across generations will be too much going forward. Right now more storage space, reducing costs, improving efficiency and fine tuning software is the way to go. This generation has the power for me to reasonably stay with these consoles for 10+ years honestly.

What about a 1 TB series s pro where the internals are with series X specs with no Blu-ray drive

I strongly agree because I think on the development back in the days of Xbox 360 PS3 days developers was developing. The game is mostly around the Xbox 360 platform before they make it for the PS3 so now the same thing is different. A developing more for the ps5 like they did the PS4 as well for the market and then later on the Xbox one the same like now for the Xbox series x/s That's why the Xbox have so many performance problems

Not sure if we need a mid gen refresh of current gen consoles.
Is there a game out there that are currently pushing the consoles very hard?
We also have a diminishing return problem so just adding a few TFlops might arguable do almost nothing.

The xbox one and ps4 were using old, dated hardware when initially released, in comparison to PC. With the 4K TVs becoming more mainstream during this time as well. The pro/x model was definitely needed. The original base models were also "cheap" as well at about $400 and the specs were pretty bad in comparison with even $500 PC builds. Now these new consoles specs were very close to $1000 pc builds when released. So I don't really think a pro/x model is really needed.
