I saw Mr. Emmanuel in London, Canada recently and besides being dazzled with his guitar abilities I was struck by his modesty and humane character. A great man!

Very generous of him to share his secrets with everyone. But he is very well aware that very few would be able to be this proficient

Haha as I was playing a Chet Atkins lick as an exercise, Tommy Emmanuel says he takes influence from Chet Aktins. He's one of my favorite guitar players aswell.

What possible reason could 65 people have had to dislike this video? Solid gold. Can’t wait to re-watch it with a guitar in my hands.

Wow, now someone who is a great guitarist that has guts to say he steal from Chet, well i put it as "Learned from Chet". And i know it takes a lot of determination & hardwork to play like chet, well chet is chet & tommy is tommy, both great guitarist that ever lived. Now tommy is sharing us what he has learned from chet. Respect to both of this guys. Special mention is mark knofler. Its really fun watching mark videos also. These 3's are legends. "RESPECT"

I love the CGP at the 12th fret. Certified indeed.

Thank-you Tommy from guitar players everywhere, for 'passing on' these foundational licks made famous by your mentor, Chet Atkins, and the great Jerry Reed. I was struck during the first part of your first lick, where you stressed anchoring the root note; in this case, the index finger fretting middle C. It was like a light bulb going on suddenly in my head!

After thinking about it, it made so much sense to me to anchor the root note (or barre) and then play whichever lick you want with the middle, ring and pinky fingers and occassionally the thumb. It eliminates jumping back and forth to fret the anchor note and whatever intevals the player adds to make a lick harmonious or dissonant and enjoyable to play and listen to.

I'd also say that anchoring technique might be somewhat challenging for smaller players, mostly smaller women and kids whose fingers may never be as long as yours or mine. Their playing could improve in a lot of ways bylaying smaller-bodied guitars like Palors and OOOs that have shorter scale lengths and usually narrower nut widths.

Like Guthrie Govan said: if you steal from one person, it's plagiarism; if you steal from multiple people, it's doing research.

Got it! Thank you Tommy! I've always wanted to get one of these crazy harp like 'floating ' licks, and this is a real gem. You've become my number one favorite guitarist. Thank you so much!
