Based on the accounts of Marines in World War II, this 10-part miniseries follows the intertwined journeys of three U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater -- Pfcs. Robert Leckie and Eugene B. Sledge and Sgt. John Basilone -- from their first battle against Japan on Guadalcanal, across the sands of Iwo Jima and the horror of Okinawa, to their ultimately triumphant return after V-J Day.

Band of Brothers had its sad bits but
man the Pacific was just downright depressing during these episodes. Cant imagine the hell they went through. Thanks as usual for uploading Johnny!

"The hardest part about treating those boys from the great war wasn't that they had their flesh torn. It was that they had their souls torn out. I dont want to look at you one day and see no spark, no love, no life. That would break my heart". - Eugene's father

That ominous flamethrower sound amidst the machine gun bursts is enough to make any man go insane.

Damn this clip is brutal, the sound design in The Pacific is just top tier. Every time you hear a Thompson rattling off or a Garand/Carbine barking away it feels so visceral

Prior to that scene, Sledge had called that house in as an artillery registration point for that sector, and an artillery shell had landed on the house, to pinpoint the position. He felt responsible for the deaths of those innocent civilians, living there. And, that guilt had haunted him for many years, thereafter.

The guy that plays Sledge should've won an emmy for his great performance in this series. Everyone did great, but Joseph Mazzello has always been my favorite actor.

When Snafu looks back at what Sledge did, he realized that Sledge became a changed man

My Dad was a WWII Veteran. I don't believe any of these men came home Normal again without Insanity. Love You. Dad 1925-2010. RIP.

I love the explosions in this show, as weird as that is to say. The explosions ain’t just massive balls of fire. They’re bursts of debris and dust. And if there’s people involved, blood and gore is added too.

Sledge has got the thousand yard stare. Too many, too often, and too close. His soul is singed with death and horror.

1:22 I love the contrast between Sledge and the fresh new replacements in their clean uniforms

Back in 71, I was a patient in a US Army Medical center down in Texas.
1000's of soldiers wounded in Vietnam were coming through every month.
Everyday, new patients were flown in.
I will never forget the way they looked coming back. So many, damaged so badly. Guys walking around, that 1000 yard stare in their eye's. Took them months to loose it. A few, never lost it.
53 years ago, and it seems like yesterday.

Spielberg and Hanks really aced this mini-series with it's greater depiction of violence and the depths of the abyss of human nature to kill and destroy. Not since Saving Private Ryan has such film making been so well directed. I hope more series and movies do the same.

The Germans seem to know when to quit, but the Japanese fought to the death even when they knew it was a lost cause, or they were out of supply and hadn't got resupplies in weeks. They kept fighting. In those conditions, it makes for a even more brutal kind of warfare then what happen in Europe. In my opinion.

When I was younger I liked to watch war movies, but then I lost one of my two little daughters (not to war).
Now, I can't watch scenes like this anymore.

Whereas before I only imagined the pain and suffering of losing someone, now I know what it's like.

Now in every battle scene all I can think of is that each of these deaths is of someone who was cared for and loved by their parents.

sorry for the grammar, english is not my native language

"With The Old Breed" has been out for a few years, I got a copy. Took me two attempts before I read the all of it. My neighbors, teachers and relatives where veterans of the PTO, it was clear why some would not talk about it. Eugene Sledge wrote an excellent book on this horrific time. Good clip.

The sound of the flamethrower, like the humming sound mixed with machine gun fire...damn

I noticed that their CO in the Okinawa episode was the Lt. who told sledge on Pavuvu, “alright marine you’ve had your look see now move along” small detail but interesting.

That music adds a perfect compliment to the coldness of the video
