Good thinking!
Tapping into the Rx battery downstream of the ON/OFF switch would also work as a power source. It wouldn't be individually switchable, but it would be lighter and simpler, and the current draw is insignificant...
For an electric powered model, a similar tap off the ESC lead to the Rx would do the same thing
