That brings back some memories... great course and competition -  what you don't see from that camera angle is that it did nearly take my eye out. Nearly a trip to the A & E department, but worked well in the end. 

I had a birdie on the hole before and didn’t want to lose momentum. 

Also an absolute pleasure to play with Brain Barnes too.

One awesome shot, there should be some kind of recognition for those kind of exceptional moments. As has been said just to think of attempting a shot like that shows exceptional talent and experience that should be worthy of recognition such as shot or play of the game outside of the game winning award.

I was caddying in our state PGA championship in 1971; my pro was leading the first round and found himself in a similar perdicament and tried the same shot. The ball riccocheted off the post, struck him on his head and landed closer to the post. One shot penalty for the ball striking him, another penalty for taking an unplayable lie: he took a sparkling 9 on a par 4 and lost the tournament by 3 strokes. The hero shot is not typically advisable.
