How to Remove Background from a Photo on iPhone - New iOS 16 Update

You can now remove background from photos on iPhone with iOS 16.

All you have to do to remove the background is select a photo and press and hold it in the center of the person, pet, or object. It will lift them off the background. You can now save the image without a background or directly share it from here.

Question: when I drag and drop cutouts to the end of the camera roll, the background is black (which I want). But when I close and reopen the app, the background is white. If I zoom in and out on the image, the black background sometimes comes back—but sometimes not. How do I keep it black?

It’s an ok function but not well thought out. Why not be able to create a new photo with a new background and paste the object into it? I can imagine using it for that reason instead of pasting it into a message
