New | RIO Compostable Spool

RIO announces their new compostable spool, replacing the previous plastic spool in fall of 2023. It is made from 100% recycled newsprint and is both recyclable and home compostable.

Replacing the plastic spool will keep 20,000 pounds of plastic out the the landfill per year, which is enough plastic spools to cover a football field.

As a steward of God’s great and wonderful creation, it disheartens me when I go out to a river or elsewhere and see trash littered by the banks or parking areas. Overall, fly fishermen/women are not the type to dump trash. I appreciate that.

Landfills are a reality but anything that helps lower the volume that goes into them is a good thing.
