She probably didn’t want anyone to know she gave birth but she still wanted to keep her daughter in her life. So she swapped babies, sold her granddaughter, and was able to keep her biological baby daughter close and watch her grow from infancy.

In Italy there was a very similar case about 6 months ago. A woman in her 30s left her baby to starve to death at home to go on a two weeks long vacation with her new boyfriend. She literally left nothing to eat in the entire house, and in the crib she left just some closed diapers. The baby was one year old, and in the head of the mother she was old enough to change her own diaper.

The police said they found that the diapers were half bitten by the baby and she was basically swimming in her own pee. I swear I have no idea what goes through the mind of people when they do stuff like these. And in the meantime, children die...

Well it seems that the grandmother wanted to keep her child near her and did not care about her grownup daughter’s need, wants, or feelings or baby. Who wants to bet that the grownup daughter abandoned the little girl when she found out what her mother did

I remember reading about this. I can't fathom what would have been going through the minds of these people honestly. But I will say someone who leaves their 3 year old alone to go start a new life obviously never cared about that child she wouldn't have noticed anything different because she didn't care enough for that. Hope she pays for her crime for a long long time and if her biological daughter is safe I hope she has a good life far far away from these people.

Stealing a child from your daughter is bad but not murder. These are bad people. They are not mistaken, opportunistic or lazy. They are bad.

You might not notice if the switch happened in the first few days because babies' heads mold to the birth canal. Babies also naturally loose weight the first few days before gaining weight, sometimes fairly rapidly. So their looks can change a fair amount. If the daughter had post-partum depression and wasn't bonding well, that could affect her ability to notice the change as well.

I gave birth to a daughter in the middle of the night. Because she was slightly early, she had to be monitored in the hospital nursery. The nurse was late bringing her to breastfeed. She rushed in apologizing and push the clear bassinet up next to my bed with the head touching and the feet toward the door. When I picked the baby up, she looked different to me. I asked my husband if she looked different to him--he thought I was crazy. I told him that I remembered being surprised when she was born because she looked like his dad. He gave me the side-eye. I was going to nurse her, but when I looked at her again, I couldn't shake the thought she looked different. My husband was exasperated and walked around to the foot of the bassinet telling me to look at the name card, and then he gasped--the card was for a baby boy born a day before ours (the down-side of hospitals using gender neutral clothing). Right then, the nurse burst into the room and yelled, "Don't feed that baby!". She was lucky I stood my ground with my husband, or she would've had to tell the other mom that a stranger had breastfed her baby.

Point being, my husband didn't notice and being tired from giving birth I almost believed him. I didn't have any pain killers. I can imagine, if the daughter had noticed anything, it wouldn't be that hard to convince a tired, young (possibly medicated or depressed), first-time mom that they weren't thinking straight.

the plot twists of this kept shocking me, just when I thought it couldn't get weirder-
