Totally agree with this. Some kids have asked me "how can I learn to code"and everytime I said this.

Look up your revered software developer legend, and 9 times out of 10 their story is "my dad got a commodore 64/ apple II and I just started tinkering with it and made small games. Then I went to college for 2 weeks and dropped out"

This video will not go down well with all those selling programming courses on Youtube.

well i'm not going to disagree with him, but to start programming i need at least know the basics of any language, that's when these "how to program" videos comes in to play, but after that you just need to program itself

I agree but only to a certain extent. It's very important to understand some core concepts before trying to program something. An introduction video will help a lot with this. After that, yes once you know the basics, it's kinda useless just mimicking what's in some video because this does not lead to understanding the code.

This is exactly how I learned, and I completely agree. The only way to truly learn a language is to DO IT. Don't get stuck in tutorial hell.

Basically you learn by actually doint it. Typing in the characters into the computer. Not just reading a book, or watching a video. You have to have it be interactive and actually write the code.

100% agree. And unlike learning how to drywall, it only costs you time when you program wrong.

Well yeah you could say that about anything. I know for one when I code I get excited once I figure out the errors and have a running program. The future is coding.

My boss asked me if I could build a system where all the staff could log on and book their holidays, preventing clashes whilst separating the records into the relevant branches. I didn't have a clue where to begin, so of course, I said yes. When realizing that Excel just, couldn't do it, I ended up having to learn HTML, PHP, MYSQL, and a bit of javascript to make it pretty. Since then, if someone asks me if I can do something and I know I can't, I try to say yes.

When i started almost ten years ago I read books, did tutorials, took classes and none of it ever sunk.
I only started learning when i tried doing something and i needed for it to work a certain way.

I literally say this to everyone holy shit. George is so based

most people think of him as saying 'He said maggicaly write code like that without knowing anything.' What he really meant is to try out some shit like reading books and making your own personal projects and watching other people coding and explaining things so you can code.

I kinda feel that is a lazy response. To me is more like. Watch videos, read books to learn the language, put a easy project in mind that you think you can do with what you learned and THEN practice. If you just say “go” to someone who doesn’t even know the steps to start, you are not helping at all.
Go read a book and do watch videos of something you want to learn as well
Go make a project
Go practice what you learned

im only 17 and im pretty good with python and c/c++. youtube videos were helpful in the beginning to get an understanding of the language. but they can only take you so far; doing it yourself will actually teach you.

I agree, doing projects (and not using code-along videos) is in my opinion, the best way to learn programming

i am your biggest fan this video changed my life from the core

I disagree, but I’m probably the minority. I learned programming because I find paradigms and techniques to be mentally stimulating. OOP, AOP, functional, closures, redux, context, observables, blocking, async, concurrent, parallel, there’s just so many ideas out there to take in and apply together.

Bruh this is soo true you can't lear. If you don't visualize and you can't visualize if you don't make a project. That's what I did for my cyber security automation projects.
