Hi Rob, I do a lot of POSIX shell scripting and a bit of Perl as of late. For this particular script that you have refactored from Bash to Perl, considering your philosophy of Perl as POSIX shell on steroids, I must say I did not grasp the benefit of Perl over pure POSIX shell. I know you got to use those short circuit variable initializations, which is handy, but other than that I think the final product ended up not requiring any regular expression matching. Anyway, just my 2 cents, keep up the good work.
