Devin AI Agent is WAYYY overhyped...

Cognition Labs recently announced Devin the AI Software Engineer. This startup believes they have crafted an AI Agent that can automate software engineering. I don't buy the hype and I was not particularly impressed with the demo or the way the Devin team deceptively presented their benchmark results. This comes just weeks after Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia told the world that people no longer need to learn how to code. I share my thoughts on Devin, software engineering, future of code, and why I don't think this is a gamechanger.

Yes I subbed. When I watched the video and saw the SWE bench I knew something is super shady. Because you are using GPT 4 but outperforming them by large margin, which doesn't make sense at all. Whatever combination you did, that's not right result. So i went through all the reviewers video on youtube but none of them, seemed to satisfy me.

But this video really pin-point out why SWE bench mark result seems shady. Thanks for the video I will definitely share this.

Totally agree; this Devin is waaay overhyped, but the writing is on the wall for humans as these AI software agents will only get better. Clearly, human software developers won't be replaced overnight, but 5 years from now, expect half the number of developer jobs that exist now.

I'm pretty sure what impress people isn't the current capability, but the potencial, I'm sure People saw gtp2 and said it's trash, but gtp 4 amd claude 3 is arguably a better writter than most people already

Is pursuing a career in data science a secure option at present? I'm torn between computer science and data science for my studies, and my main concern is the risk of being replaced by an AI chatbot after earning my degree.

Be worried because there will be others like this that will be able to handle complex tasks. . The tools will vastly improve as llm models do. The issue is not if SEs and devs will be obsolete, but the numbers of SEs or devs required to previously maintain or develop sw will be reduced. Only the best or those that have managed to position themselves as indispensable have nothing to worry about. It cheapens the whole profession even as "just a tool".
