As a (now former) pedipalp lover - I’m horrified! I always thought those were the cutest little hands of the spider. 😭

When she got R-rated I just busted out laughing. She seems so proper and a little shy, so I was not expecting her to use those words and it caught me so off guard. 😂 She's really funny. Have other unlikely sub, and keep it coming!

I used to teach kids how to tell the difference between male and female spiders IF they were curious and wanted to know. I explained that female spiders (mothers-to-be) have much fatter abdomens for growing the eggs (baby spiders-to-be). Male spiders had much thinner abdomens and when they were old enough, they'd develop bigger round tips to their pedipalps that looked like little balls. The best way for them to remember was "boy spiders have balls" just like human boys but in a different place. It usually got a little giggle from them but they never forgot how to tell the difference!

Using illustrations to explain our world is helpful for adults too. I used to work at a retail nursery and would also teach adults who enjoyed gardening but didn't know a lot about it. I was telling some people who wanted to get their annuals to bloom all season and I explained they needed to deadhead the spent blossoms regularly since if they set seed the plants would soon die.

One lady said she always took the finished flowers off by pulling the wilted petals off but they still died. So I said the pretty coloured petals were the flower's ""wedding dress" to attract a "suitor" (pollinator). Once it was fertilised, the pretty dress was no longer needed. I showed her the flower's ovary where the babies (seeds) were now growing as she'd leave that part behind.

By this time, I had a small group of people gathered around listening. 😊 Told them that the whole purpose of annual flowers was to make lots of babies (seeds) for the next year and when they did that they'd die. So if you stop them from making babies, they'll keep trying by producing flowers all season. Some told me they never had it explained like that to understand why and how, and loved it!

I absolutely LOVE teaching people who enjoy and want to learn, no matter their ages!!! ❤❤❤

I love that part about the Daddy Spider. It's like he jacks it into his hand and goes, "here's this!"
