Ubuntu 13.04 Review - Linux Distro Reviews

==What do you think about Canonical's focus?==
I review Ubuntu's 13.04 release the Raring Ringtail. With some much needed improvements to Unity, Ubuntu 13.04 seems to be a pleasent improvement to 12.10. In terms of online integration, Ubuntu does very well with some new customization options available, but the question is: is this release actually bringing any new innovation - or is it just incremental updates.

Just getting into Ubuntu on my windows 7 with vmware so very happy to have found you. I have been using 12.04 but after seeing your presentation, I switched to 13.04. So far so good. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Nice review. It does seem to be a very incremental release but all quality improvements! Interesting watching you use Unity on your laptop screen at the end there, Unity seems ideal for a smaller screen. Will probably move from Mint 13 KDE to Kubuntu 13.04 on my desktop because there are still a few things that are broken in Unity for multiple monitors of different resolutions :( This is a prime candidate though for the Dell XPS 13 I'll be getting in a month or so. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review I have been watching your Mint reviews as well. I have to decide which one I want Mint or Ubuntu I might try them both and choose from there. Thanks.

Ubuntu is the best OS distro in Linux. I am using Ubuntu since 11.04. I excited by its huge development and comparable with windows. Still some useful window's software's not available for ubuntu. Your comprehensive review of Ubuntu13.04 with in short time after its release helped me to understand the changes in this up gradation. But I will wait for some more time to fix issues with all PPA's espeacially Gwibber.
Thanks for your nice review.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I like Linux Mint best because it is Ubuntu with different default packages installed. I can also recommend it to my friends who say "What is Linux?" They install Linux Mint and are all set from the get go. They don't have to learn how to do anything and yet it is fully usable and configured to work.

Hey +Blaine! Great review, thanks. To your question, I have no problem with Canonical's focus on convergence. It makes it easier to make converts. :-D I hope Shuttleworth et al are giving serious thought to building not just products, but a comprehensive ecosystem as well.

Grace and Peace,

Great review! Will you be reviewing the new Mageia release? I'm kind of curious what they've done =D

Dude I downloaded the 13.04, do you recommand it ? Mind that I'm comming from windows, so I'm not sure about going to linux because I think I'll lose some of my windows programs, but then I'm not a heavy gamer, all I play is counter strike and silkroad

very nice; I am going to download 13.04 now. I just wanted to see if it had any improvements over the last one that I tried, and it looks like it does.

Ubuntu 13.04 is extremely stable and is a version for any Ubuntu user to have! Definitely worth the upgrade whether from older versions, LTS, and especially 12.10. While the focus is on convergence, I like where Ubuntu has taken the desktop, and the operating system works well. Software Center could use A LOT of work. Best applications in there are hidden compared to popular applications. Also, best to install synaptic, as that package manager does not hide the internals like the software center

I'm using Linux Mint, and it's quite nice. The only gripes I have with it mostly relate to me having multiple monitors of different sizes, but other than that, it's a breeze. It's fast, and has a nice balance of lightweight-ness to customizability and attractiveness.

Online integration and online search through the Dash are two separate things. Online integration requires you to provide your account details, so it's opt-in. Online search in the Dash using the scopes is opt-out, it's on by default. Both are easy to adjust via System Settings.

Yes you can...Download the wubi installer and it will guide you through...there will be an option somewhere along the line to set up a new partition on the hard drive or remove windows 8. When you get it set up the boot menu on the laptop will give you the option to boot either OS

I'm planning to buy a new laptop, and Ubuntu does seem very useful, especially with the workspaces, I am starting to learn programming a little. and am planning to take, print media and design as a major, so that'd come in really handy.

it also looks more organized, which is good because I get easily overwhelmed when I have tons of programs/tabs open, I like to keep it neat, easier to concentrate then.

I am a Computer Scientist and Unbuntu has many great engineering and general science tools for FREE so get the basic desktop (get the latest version and install it) I adore the Unbuntu project for including stuff us scientists can use.

I use Ubuntu-Gnome 13.04 it's a new Ubuntu official release that give you all the goodness and none of the Unity! It's a very clean distro and I run it on my Alienware M17X R3. :-)

I wouldn't recommend eOS to regular users just yet. Beautiful, light and usable as it is, some apps crash here too often. On older machines I install mint mate, xfce or even lxde for now.

I heard an IT consultant saying that linux is the best thing that could've happened because it needs at least as much maintenance as all the others but with a little extra for the migration part ^^
