Did you know that Pringles aren't potato chips but legally are? Pringles are a combination of water, dehydrated processed potato, and corn starch. Pringles were originally called potato chip but this was scrapped in 1975 when the FDA ruled that Pringles must call them potato chips made from dried potatoes. Instead of going along with this, Pringles called them potato crisps, which caused some confusion in the UK as potato chips are always referred to as potato crisps. So Britain went ahead and legally made Pringles potato chips, even though they aren't made from potatoes. This meant that Pringles now had to pay the UK's 17.5% tax on chips.
