Without question coach Munehiro Kugimiya who spotted the potential in Caloy and handpicked him to train in Japan under his tutelage is the major reason why Caloy became an elite athlete. Let's not ignore the debt we owe coach Mune. Apart from welcoming Caloy into his home, he tutored Caloy with his schoolwork. Academics & athletics were both handled by coach Mune. Obviously Caloy is becoming his own man. Wanting to make decisions with his girlfriend. But those 2 gold medals though Caloy won them would never have been in his grasp without the solid foundation that coach Mune selflessly gave to Caloy. Nonetheless, congratulations to Carlos Yulo. And with deep respect, gratitude & sincerity, Arigato Coach Munehiro Kugimiya.

Caloy should have been humble enough to reconsider reuniting back with his Japanese coach while there's time. By now, he should have some maturity to know where his true priorities lie. If her GF really loves him, she should have not been too selfish asking for Caloy's time so as to disrupt his training schedules. His coach have sacrificed and heavily invested a lot in terms of priceless time and valuable resources spent in bringing the very best in Caloy to make him a world champion material. So sad that at this juncture, that Caloy missed the point of what world class athlete means---painstaking dedication, hard work, discipline, and extreme personal sacrifices.

Time will tell but one thing that s for sure, with the broken relationships with his family, former coach and others, his career is already on the edge. He will surely learn his lesson the hardest way. His emotion has carried him away too far.
Mentors, coaches, consultants know best that GF/wife/non- blood related people should stay away when there are family problems lest things will become complicated when they are involved.

It’s so true! The wholeness of a person is crucial in his career. His detachment from his support group ie family and coaches will make him pariah to some people even among athletes and other organizations. The change in his lifestyle and relationships can affect his performance as an athlete .

He only had one more year before Paris games but he prioritized his personal life. A lot of athletes who succeeded gave a lot of sacrifices to achieve their goals. It’s his choice. If he chooses personal love life over his career the results will be of his own choice. I do not like to condemn him. I just feel personal frustration because it’s just one more year to go and then this happened. But that’s just me. His success will be his own choice. I just hope his ego does not tamper his decision.
