Jocelyn, very interesting subject today. Having in America currently over 5 million people of Philippine ancestry. The largest population outside the Philippines. I find that so great and wonderful. Many Filipinos have joined the US military and also earned their status as citizens through marriage and all appropriate avenues. So, you educating them about becoming dual citizenship is really a blessing. Now me as a American and have lived in the Philippines and plan on retiring there in the future too. I graciously appreciate that the Philippines have the Philippine American Military Retirement SRRV program. Which is my future plans on utilizing when I do retire in estimate around the year 2025. Now being age 59, it is getting closer every day. I sincerely thank you for all your knowledge that you share to us. We just heard of this earlier this year. My wife was still a citizen of the Philippines when our 3 oldest kids were born in the 90's. She became a US citizen after their births. I did the report of birth for them in February of this year, and applied for my wife's dual citizenship with our 8 year old added since she was born after my wife was a US Citizen. Everything was approved by April. We just got all our PSA report of births from the Philippines last week. Got lucky, the Chicago Consulate is coming to my city next month to do passports and dual citizenship ceremonies. Got my kids signed up for the passports. Then everyone in my family will be dual citizens holding passports from both countries. Well, everyone but me, lol. Very easy process. So yeah, I agree with you, get that dual citizenship. Great advice.

4:10 This is correct that the child is “not a dual citizen” as you mentioned only if the child was born in a country that does not allow dual citizenship or birthright citizenship like Taiwan, France or New Zealand for example, the child is not a dual citizen but only a Filipino citizen by derivation.

However, if a child was born of Filipino parents abroad in a country like the United States, the child is automatically a dual citizen by virtue of jus soli or birthright citizenship honored by the United States and jus sanguinis or blood right citizenship as honored by the Philippines.

I would advise your readers to check first with the U S State Department about what rights and protections you lose as a dual citizen. You are just looking at this subject from the viewpoint of a Philippine citizen right.

I am a dual citizen...I got mine in the Philippines. It was so easy it took me 4 months to get my papers.
My husband can get a 1-year Balikbayan Visa if we go together.
