The difference between Hong Kong and Taiwan is that Hong Kong was leased to the British, never leaving China, whereas Taiwan was never ruled by the CCP. The nations that will defend Taiwan make it so that Taiwan would have to unify voluntarily. After what happened in Hong Kong, that's unlikely to happen. Can the CCP create a large enough and good enough army to seize Taiwan? Time will tell.

Hong Kong was a wonder if the world, East meets West, old meets new...the greatest hotels, suit and shoe makers, afternoon tea better than on Park Lane! The Peninsula hotel, a top 5 hotel in the world!

I went back after the hand over began, my limo driver was gone replaced by a cheaper worker, my personal service attendant was gone also. The driver was scary, he spoke 5 words of English without a British accent..same with 90 % of the hotel's entire staff.. We were saded by the downgrading of HK.

The island if Taiwan was never under control of the CCP. The Republic of China(Taiwan) was founded by the Kuomintang after the Chinese civil war and developed into a thriving democracy.
