Wine corks are a stopper used to seal wine bottles. They are typically made from cork (bark of the cork oak). Half of the world's cork wine stoppers come from Portugal's cork oak trees. These trees are so important to the country's ecosystem and economy, they're protected under Portuguese law.Go inside the forests of Alentejo to see how the cork bark is carefully harvested every nine years so it doesn't hurt the trees.

This is just a very good thing. It's very responsible and good to see not much goes to waste at all. People don't realize how important this item is until you don't have it! Many of today's devices still use it in hundreds of applications from cars to home products. Thanks for the look inside.

Great video and very informative. Never knew where corks came from or how you harvest them. The plant that you work at is beautiful. Clean and efficient. Thanks for sharing this video. May God bless and keep you all safe in all of your future endeavors. From a 69 year old retired steel worker, originally from Michigan, but now living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. USA.

This production line is amazing, I honestly don't even notice when I drink wine

As a non wine drinker and a maker of fishing floats I personally prefer the grade 2 manufactured corks made from cork chips they are virtually free of imperfections, and when turned on the lathe they are beautifully smooth and blemish free

What a great video, delighted that the Cork industry is sustainable and provides so much employment. Question: is the cork waste in the factories recycled?

Exceptional video... Cork is a gift from God given its amazing uses!

A funny application for cork was the consideration to use it as the heat shield for spacecraft (not quite as good as the tiles used, but much cheaper, and it would have needed to be much thicker).
