Answer :

There are two sources mainly to know the history Of India i.e literary sources and archaeological sources.
Literary sources: the information gathered in written forms that explain the essence of ancient cultures and history.
Archaeological sources: It tells about the artefacts which include coins and inscription.

Inscription throw the light on every aspect of history, in the form of political order, in the form of donation, in the form of commendation also. In the same way coins contributed in the history. They convey the names of kings with their titles and portrait, event, places, dates, dynasties and achievement.

Political history: 13 th rock edict of Ashoka gives information about kalinga war, Hathigumpha inscription of Kahrvela tells us about events during his region.
In the same way coins of gupta dynasty give idea of territorial extent. Rajarani coins of chandragupta maurya tells us about lichhavi in the hand of gupta dynasty.

Social history: Eran inscription of bhanugupta give first evidence of sati pratha. Mathura pillar inscription give information about widow remarriage.
In the same way gupta ruler's coins have portrait of king and queen which give us idea of about their life style, dressing sense of that period of time.

Economic history: Ashoka 's rumindei inscription gives information about the taxes .
Kumargupta inscription : Damodar copper plates tells us about donation of land to temple.
We have found that the coins of samudragupta made up of pure gold coins which reflect their prosperity. Whereas in the region of skandgupta their economy were not so high as samudragupta as his coins are not made up of pure gold.
