Michael Johnson c.1972 Muskrat Love, Songwriter: Willis Allen Ramsey
With pump organ.
Courtesy of Michael Johnson, lyrics:
Muskrat, muskrat, candy light
Doing the town in
Doing it right in the evening
It's pretty pleasing

Muskrat Suzy, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in Muskrat land
Watch 'em shimmy
Sammy's so skinny

And they whirl and the twirl and they tango
Singing and jinging the jango
Floating like the heavens above
Must be Muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewing on cheese
Sammy says to Suzy, honey
Would you please be my missus
She says yes with her kisses

So he's tickling her fancy, rubbing her toes
Muzzle to muzzle now, anything goes
Watch 'em wiggle
Till she starts to giggle

And they whirl and the twirl and they tango
Singing and jinging the jango
Floating like the heavens above
Must be Muskrat love

Muskrat, muskrat, candy light
Doing the town in
Doing it right in the evening
It's pretty pleasing

So he's tickling her fancy, rubbing her toes
Muzzle to muzzle now, anything goes
Watch 'em wiggle
Till she starts to giggle

Sure do miss you, Michael. I had the pleasure of knowing MJ and he was everything you hope he would be - funny, down to earth, a good listener and thoughtful. He was a gentle soul.

I've heard 2 versions by The Captain & Tennille and America. I like America's background harmonies, but Michael's version is straight to the point. I like his much better.

I have always thought this was the dumbest song - but to hear Michael Johnson sing it against the beautiful harmonies of his guitar, it's just breath-taking. I love his cover of this song. Is it really from 1972?
