why study religion? (as a non-believer)

I don't personally believe that a dualistic (non-material) God exists. And I find the God's of specific religions even harder to believe. But, I still think studying religious texts is worthwhile, here's why.

Agree on all points. I would recommend a short parable called "The skylark and the frogs" which I found in a book "The Making of a Counter Culture" by Theordor Roszak. The story stayed with me and it comes up whenever I think about my relationship with religion.

Information is non-physical. This can be demonstrated because the same information can be held by different mediums. You can write information down to see it, intone the same information to hear it, etc... so the information itself exists, but not as a material object. The meaning of my comment on your video is an idea beyond the mere letters and words as they appear. This idea exists. It's not physical.
