Wooo so happy to have you guys back. I have just gotten back into the YouTube space as a creator and I am really enjoying it. Previously I have been too hard on myself in terms of comparison, but now I'm just drawing inspiration and making things that I enjoy. I'm sure I'll look back in a few years and think what I'm making now is utter crap, but I am excited for that as it will mean that I will have improved!

Great video, Orin! I couldn't agree more with what you said in this video. I've been doing YouTube (by "doing YouTube" I mean uploading one video every couple of months) for almost two years now, and I've only just gotten myself to stop comparing myself to other creators so much. I also found myself making videos that I thought would get me views/subscribers instead of making the videos that I actually want to make make. It took me a long time after starting YouTube before I became comfortable with my videomaking. I'm always improving and growing with every video that I make and I feel like it's the same for every YouTuber out there, even the ones who have been making videos for years and years.

Anyways, this comment was all over the place but I loved your advice so much that I thought I'd share some of my own advice/stuff I've learned from my experience on YouTube. (This is also the longest comment I've ever put on a video, I guess that means this video was good enough to start a discussion ??? Again, great job!)

I think the point you make about not comparing ourselves to others is really important. I used to do it all the time when it comes to youtube but since I stopped doing it I've been able to create more content I felt like creating.

I think we all have moments where we compare ourselves, but that's because other people are the ones that make us want to start creating. When I think back reeeaally far I remember LiveLavaLive, Rhett and Link, and so many other pros inspiring me to start a channel. I didn't start consistently uploading until a year ago(my channel's been up for 6 years), so it's funny to see how comparing can stall progress. Great video! :)
