Im an electrical engineer, the resistance of your body is in the 100k range not nearly 430 ohm. Hot dogs are filled with saline so they are going to be far more conductive

I used to cook hotdogs this way when I was a kid, but I used 120v and stuck the wires into each end of the dog. Tasty.

When we worked construction, I had made a simple device out of electrical wire and 4 stainless steel pins mounted on a piece of 2×4. Impale hot dogs on the stainless pins (could do 2 at once), plug it into regular 120, and wait a few moments. When they were steaming and just starting to crackle, they were done.

How safety for kids has changed. In my Boy Scout days, there was a project in the handbook on making a hotdog cooker. You drove 2 nails through a piece of wood at each end of the hotdog and tied a power cord to them with one wire on each nail. When you plugged it in, it cooked the hotdog. lol

I didn't understand electricity and neither did my father as he said there is no heating element, so it wouldn't work. He tied a wire between the nails as an element and proceeded to blow the fuse, thank heavens.

Maybe Oscar Meyer can package them as 240v
80 ohm weiners now.

Takes a bite... then looks at the package 😂

My dad helped make a hotdog cooker when i was a kid. It was two 16p nails driven through a piece of wood with a 120v wires hooked to the backside. It woked, but maybe a little dangerous 😂

Awesome! This is why the internet exists, for vids like these. . .

Presto used to make a "Vintage" hotdog maker based on this concept. To cook your hotdog to perfection using 240V you would only need to add the proper resistor to prevent too much current and your hotdog from cooking too quickly.

They manufactured a hotdog cooker with direct 110vac contacts with a fsilsafe cover that had to be closed. Dotdogs, juicy as all get out, in 10 seconds.

Great video! Quick question, is it ok for electrical class gloves to fit a bit loose or do they have to be on the tighter side in order to protect from current?

On one hand, who has 80 Ohm hand resistance? On the other hand, it only takes about 3% of that current to stop your heart.

There is a cooker, Instant Burger, that does just that. But it does it with 120v. It is for Hamburgers, but will cook hot dogs, really almost any uncoated meat. It will cook the hamburger in around 30 seconds, less for the hot dogs. It has to be on a 30 amp individual circuit.

Maybe if one conductor went down the middle and the 2nd wrapped on the outside then you would have a nicely cooked dog.

My mad wife did this to me last weekend while I was sleeping. I had to call the ambulance, and is was amputated after 48 hours. 😑

This is going to end up in jackass 5, probably by Pontius.

Voltage is too high use and not enough coil but it does work
