Lt Gen Jonah Mwangi: If you are joining as a cadet, you need to have B+ average grade and in Math, you need to have a C+ and above, that also goes to English and one science subject. For a general service recruit, you need to have a D. If you are coming as a general artisan, you need a D+ and above. If you have a degree, you enter as a cadet and at the commissioning, you are commissioned as a second lieutenant

I was rejected from joining Kenya Military for missing a single molar. However, upon migrating to the US, I actually got recruited, my teeth fixed and served over 20 years later. Loved it!!

I really liked the interview with LT. General Jonah Mwangi from the Kenya Defense Forces. His straightforward and inspiring way of answering questions was pretty impressive. It's cool how he didn't beat around the bush and just got straight to the point. It would be great if Kenya had something like the Junior ROTC program like the US– it would be awesome to have a program that helps young people develop leadership skills and all that. Also, they’ll know about requirements ahead of time such as the tattoo thing.
