Introducing the New MATLAB Extension for Visual Studio Code

The new MATLAB® extension for Visual Studio Code makes it easier to edit and develop MATLAB code in VS Code. The extension provides several basic features, regardless of whether you have MATLAB installed on your system. These features include syntax highlighting, code snippets, and code folding.

If you have MATLAB R2021a or later installed on your system, you have access to an additional set of advanced code-editing features such as tab completion, code analysis, and code navigation. Additionally, this extension works well with other extensions in the marketplace, such as the Live Share extension or GitHub® Copilot.

This could be really useful if it was able to execute matlab scripts, but not being able to directly run matlab scripts basically invalidates all of the other benefits imo

What is the point of editing the code in VS Code, if I have to run it anyway in Matlab IDE?? This way its redundant. Without the full IDE in VS Code this extension is useless.

I always get the error message:

> MATLAB was unable to start. If MATLAB is installed, confirm that the MATLAB executable path setting is properly configured.

I have quadruple confirmed that the path is correct and that it is the same at that output by matlab using the 'matlabroot' command. I use Matlab 2023b.

matlab plot is not showing while running form vs code in linux system. but it shows plot when i run the same code using matlab ide using the command matlab -softwareopengl . Any solution for it. Thanks.

Nice unnecessary toolbox. Without running and debugging its useless. Developers write code and then immediately check how it behaves. It means I shoud open both windows - matlab and VSC

No point of editing Matlab in VSC if we can not run it within VSC. Useless and s waste of time. Thanks for trying but it is not helpful to release this matlab extension prematurely.
