Imagine you're 13 year old David Marks. A typical junior high student walking the halls of your local school---and a Capitol recording artist! You're kind of a big deal on campus. You can't get to class without girls fawning all over you and fellow classmates wanting your autograph. Your notoriety has caught the attention of the school's football team to the point that they want to beat you up and cut off your beautiful locks because they are jealous of you. But the fact is---this was the reality of rock stars then. People today don't realise just how young rock and roll was in the early 60s! This was music made by kids FOR kids! But this illustrates a larger issue on how much pressure there was for young performers at the time. They had to find a way to balance touring, recording, and school work all at once. Not to mention, being mobbed everyday at school as a campus celebrity! I don't know too many 40 year olds who could handle that. Some of them simply dropped out of school. I think Murry found a solution for Carl. Sent him to Hollywood Professional School to tutor him
