Ava Max's first album, Heaven & Hell, is out. Two years after Sweet But Psycho dropped, we finally have the debut record. But is it good? Let's find out. Ava Max hasn't found traction past Sweet But Psycho. Why? Because we don't know who she is. In this video, I discuss identity issues, production similarities, and why this happened. #HeavenAndHell #AvaMax #Review

Comment your favorite track! I wasn’t the biggest fan but lemme know what tracks did it for you. Ava seems like a lovely person from interviews but the album didn’t do much for me.

I think part of what Ava Max was trying to convey on this album was her more frantic personality rather than going into more specific character traits. I heard her say in a video that she didn’t have any slow songs on the album because she is a very energetic person and she wanted that to be reflected in the album.

okay look. i’ve never cared for Ava, and never taken her seriously because i just found her so forced and trying too hard to be a perfect pop star in a world where trap and hip hop is taking over the charts. but last night i thought i’d give her album a listen for the fun of it....

I STAN AVA MAX NOW!!!! i genuinely think this album is an absolute throwback to the pop music i grew up with 2009-2014. the whole album feels like a perfect blend of every pop diva i grew up listening to. kesha, gaga, selena gomez, jlo, shakira, rihanna etc.
i can agree that the album still lacks personality and i agree that i don’t quite know who ava max is as an artist. as cheap as the album sounds, i think it’s almost a positive thing. because i’ve missed this pure 2010’s pop music that doesn’t get made anymore, and i guess that’s where her music fits in for me.

i understand why you didn’t like this album, but all the negatives you mentioned actually contrarily are positives for me hahahah!

to sum up, this album feels so nostalgic to my childhood and the music i used to listen to. can’t wait to see where she goes next and how she evolves. maybe she’ll do a Dua Lipa and have an average debut and then break out on their sophomore! only time will tell

Ava Max makes pop music that doesn’t have any flavor. She doesn’t have any identity or real innovative songwriting which set apart other pop queens. It just reads as extremely commercial and without any concept of making art. It’s very paint-by-the-numbers and it shows. I expect more from a genre that’s leaving the industry mainstage,

I liked the record. It has some fillers but that's to be expected from a debut. It reminds me of early Gaga. Hopefully she can fully grow in to herself for her sophomore release and have a "Future Nostalgia" moment.

I haven't heard the whole album, but the track omg what's happening is addicting to me. I like how she talks about how she wants to "broadcast my emotions on the radio" and when she says, "writing in my journal 'bout you" It makes me wonder if she's singing about her fans. My brain just shuts down & I bop my head up & down & laugh when she yells. So playful

Naked and Born to the Night... her magnum opus methinks

I actually like the album because I like 2010s sounds not today's music..
But still, I think it's look like a parody to old songs, mainly all the songs have some similarities with different artists like Katy, gaga, dua, ariana, etc . She took different songs style and put them together in the album...
It lack originality at all. Not something unique

I disagree completely.
While I agree Ava Max can feel manufactured in a lot of her singles, but I loved this album outside a lot of the generic tracks. The Hell side (the three tracks we didn’t hear) were very Halloween-ish, WHICH I LOVE! It has exactly what I want, it has the creepy vibe, but not Billie Eilish creepy vibe, it was creepy with a bold tone.
Heaven side was something that I find harder to define, but I still loved it.
Also the Rumor analysis didn’t make any sense to me, it could easily be about her real life because oh what a shocker, not everyone only lives through the internet.
My favorites are Belladonna Take You To Hell Born to the Night Tattoo Naked and Rumor.

I just feel like that somewhere down the line their were too many chiefs, and not enough Indians trying to dictate what the perfect debut album for Ava Max was going to be. I felt like the album sprinkled a little bit of this and that and tried to play it safe with the songs. Much like Rita Ora’s last album all the songs are just safe. Any artist could sing them and make them their own. I prefer Ava’s sound in the spectrum that’s closer to Sweet But Psycho, Torn and Kings and Queens.

I liked this album but it definitely could have been better. I have faith in Ava Max, I think she has potential to become much more famous, however her second album will have to be more original and less repetitive.

I do like this album but to me, it has some really bad flaws. Tracks on here sound way to similar to each other and the writing is very rudimentary on some of them. Salt remains my favorite track from this album and Ava's discography in general. One of my online friends showed me a video of her singing and oddly enough I was reminded of Björk and Tori Amos. I feel like if she experiments more in the future she could become a distinguishable artist.
