In Canada, an engineer can join the "Iron Ring Society". The rings were originally made from the iron gerders of a Canadian fatal Bridge collapse about 100 yrs ago. It is to act as a reminder of the fiduciary responsibility an engineer owes for the safety of the public . Now the rings are made of stainless steel. I am 72 years old,
retired engineer, and I will not take it off. I will die wearing only my wedding band, and my "Iron Ring".The only rings I own.

You need some Senior IEEE Member T-shirts. With a "No, I can't tell you what the secret handshake is!"

Nice video! I loved the conversation.
I can't believe Fran never heard of web rings. These were the best thing as you simply bookmarked one page and could get access to a series of similar content.
Being a fan of displays, I am mesmerized by Fran's wide variety of display devices. Can't wait for the next videos about that.

Just to mention, I'm a "Millennial" here and found ya both way back around 2007 and 2009/2010, also been into tech since I first saw inside a smoke alarm back when I were 5 (1996).
Note Some say "Millennial" is those whom had teenage through the millennium and others say it's those born on the decade after the Y2K, hence I quote the generation label.

I never thought about the YT algo as far as my age which is 70. I guess this explains why I get so few views, most of my peer group is either not viewing or has passed away. I do my videos for the younger generations but I guess it don't matter algorithmically. I really like these amp hour videos, keep them coming.

"Fran. You gotta do something on the datastrobe!" Fran:"Okay. Send me one and I'll do a video on it."

Fran's theory of the time gravity relationship is interesting and innovative thinking! Nice job guys!

Dave's interview style is just so different. Chris is very "to the point." It might be why they work well with eachother

I think Fran's F1 video gets so many views because if someone searches on youtube for 'F1 rocket engine' there is not a ton of content and the younger people are probably sucked in by the 'insane' in the title. Right now it gets ranked #2 result with a Scott Manley video as #1.

Re: collaboration / webrings / community - Some of the 'maker' channels have gotten together to do a secret santa thing for the past few years (not going to link it, just search youtube for 'maker secret santa'. They all have kinda their own 'vibe', their own favored project types, just like you guys (Dave, Fran, Clive, Mehdi, etc) and I was thinking you might be able to do something similar.

What exact form it takes could change, maybe a secret santa (someone sends Clive some mystery ebay thing they found, someone sends Dave a piece of old test gear to teardown, etc), maybe a switcheroo (do a video for someone else's channel in their style/subject matter), as long as the videos are linked in sequence and maybe have a playlist setup for continuity. I'm coming up short on more specific ideas for that but a once or twice a year thing might be enough to associate the channels into a community the way you're talking about. Even just doing a video similar to the group zoom call on a semi-regular schedule could work though it's quite a bit harder to coordinate 7-8 people across almost as many timezones then it is to coordinate 2-person collaborations and videos over an hour likely end up with lower view counts.

1:03:00 Star Trek Voyager is the series shot in SD video. Actually my favorite ST series (don’t judge, people). 🙂 I’m actually optimistic that with the new AI upscaling tech coming out we might actually get a high definition version. That tech is amazing.

1:04:38 - I've had a similar experience with the 'Soap Opera Effect'. It made ST-TOS look like it was shot on video!
I bought a new LG Smart TV a while back. I had to go several menu-levels deep to turn it OFF!

OK I think I understand what Fran was talking about to bring content into a circle so YT algorithm can recognise it. Let's say YTbers like you guys trying to cover the same electronic device from your respected interest. Fran takes it apart and dealing with the display only; meanwhile Dave covers the circuit design element and BigClive reverse engineering the LED driving circuit and ElectroBoom is shorting out the device and get a shock. It requires very little co-op (but surely some collaboration a few emails at most) only to discuss what part belongs to whom and as a whole the content only makes a full circle if the audience walk the circle. It could work! I would surely watch it. I think it worth a try. Can the algorithm be directed by common interest?
