Even if christianization happens in a place it doesn't change everything, it can color things but it's not homogeneous or complete. Look at Ireland, it's been Christian for a long time but it's well recognized that songs myths prayers and songs syncretized with each other, so much so that we have some idea of ancient Irish Celtic practices through their preservation within those things. They're still Celtic practices, just with a Christian veneer. Plus, wrt no documentation pre Christianity, with Norse/Scandinavian things, there was a large period where things weren't written down. Just because it was written then doesn't necessarily mean it didn't exist before then!

I’d love it if you did a book review of one of prof Ronald Hutton’s books, he’s a real stickler for seeing Christian origins for everything! Perhaps his latest “Queens of the Wild”? I feel like you’d be able to dialogue with that in some very constructive ways. 😊
