The Qinling Panda, Brown Panda, Ailuropoda Melanoleuca Qinlingensis, also known as the Qinling Giant Panda, is a subspecies of the Giant Panda, Ailuropoda Melanoleuca, that is native to the Qinling Mountains in China.
Qinling pandas are distinguished from other Giant Panda subspecies by their smaller size, lighter fur color, and longer, thicker fur. They have well-developed, curved claws which help them grasp branches and move through trees.
This species is endangered, with fewer than 1,000 individuals remaining in the wild.

As we continue to study and learn about the animal kingdom, we can discover new information about the diversity and characteristics of animals. Science and technology have allowed scientists to explore new ways of investigating and understanding the animal world.

All brown Pandas are from Qinling Mountain Range or more specifically from Qinling Panda subspecies (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis) which have been separated from non-Qin Panda i.e. Sichuan Panda(Ailuropoda melanoleuca) for many thousands of years.

Qinling Panda are usually like the their Sichuan counterpart, are mainly Black & White, but the Qinling Pandas’ chest spot is dark brown and the abdomen hair is brown, while the Sichuan Giant Panda chest spot is black and the belly hair is white.

Qinling Panda also have a much rounded skull and less protruding muzzle with bigger molar teeth as compare to the Sichuan Panda. Therefore some describe them as more like a cat, whereas Sichuan Panda look more like a dog with their much more protruding muzzle.

The last survey done for Qinling Panda was ended in 2015, it was estimated to be around 345 Qinling Panda in the wild.

As for purely brown & white panda, it is only found within the Qinling Panda population, & so far there are ten officially recorded Brown Pandas, 七仔/Qi Zai is the 7th brown panda found.

Here are all the Brown Giant Pandas found in Shaanxi:

1. In 26 Mar 1985, a local found a injured Brown Panda in 佛坪县/Foping County and was rescued. It was named 丹丹/Dan Dan and she even gave birth to a male cub 秦秦/Qin Qin which was black & white.
2. On 22 Jun 1991, a black & white mother Panda with a about one year old brown Panda cub were found in the wild in Foping.
3. On 29 Mar 1992, an injured female brown Panda was found in Zai Yang. She was rescued and treated and later released back to the wild.
4. In Apr 1993 in Qinling mountain, scientists found 3 male Pandas fighting for the rights to mate, one was a brown Panda.
5. In Apr 2000, a Brown Panda was found having a drink by the river in Foping.
6. In Sep 2005, a Brown Panda was found nursing her cub in a cave in Foping.
7. On 1st Nov 2009, a Brown Panda cub was found abandoned in Foping and was rescued and later named 七仔/Qi Zai.
He mated with 珠珠/Zhu Zhu & she gave birth to a male black & white cub named 秦华/Qin Hua aka 盼盼/Pan Pan on Oct 2020.
Next is 七仔/Qi Zai also mated with 正正/Zheng Zheng & she gave birth in July 2021 to a black & white cub male cub named 八仔/Ba Zai.

From 8th to 10th, they are detected by IR wildlife camera.
8. On 22nd Jan 2013, a Brown Panda was captured by IR wildlife camera in Shaanxi.
9. In 11 Mar 2018, a Brown Panda was captured by IR wildlife camera in Shaanxi.
10. On April 16 & 30, 2021, a Brown Panda was captured twice by IR wildlife camera in Xi An, Shaanxi.

Qingling pandas are not equal to brown pandas. Most qingling pandas are in black and white, just like normal pandas we see. But in the Qingling panda group, there are several brown pandas, and scientists have not found the reason why they are brown.

Qinling panda was guarded by Qin shi huang who was the first emperor of unified china. Qinling mountain is where the Qin dynasty emperor roamed and relaxed. Qinling panda was the treasure of the shaanxi province.
