Prophecy, Revelation, & the Spiritual Battle | John Rich | EP 470

Dr. Jordan Peterson sits down with country music artist John Rich. They discuss his new independent song release “Revelation,” the balance of artistic and commercial merit, recognizing constraints that detract from your proper orientation, discerning the spirits from the shadows, and what terrifies Jordan about the biblical Christ.

John Rich is a multi-platinum hit generator and music industry leader whose creative talents are matched only by his business savvy. He is also a proud father of two sons and recently celebrated his 13th wedding anniversary. Whether through a raucous party anthem or a sober reflection on hard times in the heartland, Rich’s ability to capture the American zeitgeist in song has made him one of the most successful and prolific entertainers in the music business today. In 2011, Rich impressed Donald Trump and American TV audiences with his business acumen and leadership skills, becoming the winner of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice and raising $1.5 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Now, Rich is applying his talents to his latest venture, a lifestyle brand called Redneck Riviera that launched in 2014 with an apparel line geared to what he dubs the “work hard play hard” crowd.

It was Jordan Peterson that got me to even consider opening a Bible - that was coming from an interest in behavioural psychology. I watched his Genesis series and found it fascinating and then thought I better read this book he was speaking on. I didn't get much out of it alone so a friend said I ought to join a Bible study online - I did (they were gracious enough to let me in as a non-believer and let me ask all sorts of questions without being annoyed or defensive) and it was through many many months of study (both in groups and alone) that the truth became apparent to me, I just couldn't deny it. I believed with my head (I did a lot of extra study on translation, dating the books, what other religious texts had to say etc) but it took a while for me to truly accept Jesus as my saviour. I got baptised in 2022 and am an active member of my local church and my whole outlook on life has changed drastically.

Great interview, John, if you see this, Dr peterson made his position very clear at the end, and I'm grateful you pushed him to reveal it. No matter how reluctantly. He is the voice that brought me back out of the darkness in his writings. I thank God he did. I'll respect his keeping his own faith private as he peaches the message in his next 3 books. DR thank you for doing your best to yeild to the truth while avoiding the trap of ego.

John may be a pretty good singer/songwriter but he’s true Spirit filled preacher.

Wow, this song hit me like a ton of bricks, I quit watching the interview to hear it, and it really resonated with me, but not because of the song itself, so much as the way Mr. Rich describes how he came to write it. I had a very similar experience about 9 years ago, when I heard a friend was declared Stage 4 cancer. A mother with a young family, a beautiful woman inside and out. While she was being treated with chemotherapy she jotted down some seemingly random portions from scripture, which found their way to my email inbox from her husband, who had written to me asking for prayers.
When I read what she had written I was driven, that’s the best way to describe the feeling, to put her words into a song, I felt it might be helpful.
I’m no songwriter, but the pen just wrote a stream of consciousness and I was struggling to hold it back. Anyway, the song was written in under 15 minutes, lyrics and tune the whole bit. I honestly don’t know how it happened but I had a friend who was more musically able take a look at it, and by the end of the day she had polished it up a bit, and sent it back to me demanding I send it to my sick friend. I procrastinated a day or so, but in the end I figured what harm would it do?
What it did was helped my friend and her family through her eventual death and her husband now has seen fit to use it to help him through mourning her loss.

No question that this was Gods work. At least in my mind. So your story in a way gives mine some credibility in that I was simply open to follow what was pushing me into doing something very unusual for no benefit to myself other than I had possibly helped someone else who needed it.

I’ve cherished that memory and so thank you for validating what I know to be true. God can use these small things in ways we can’t imagine and gives them power.
