To the EMT who plans on becoming an RN and plans on spending $140, 000 to go to college: I am 42 years old, I am a truck driver, I make $81, 000 a year, AND I am also a volunteer firefighter / EMT out in Oregon. I also volunteer with the local search and rescue team. I also have additional training in vehicle extrication as well as rope rescue. I have been a volunteer since I was 18 years old, and I pretty much have seen everything that's out there, and yet I never ever ever had to pay a single dollar to go to college to do what I'm doing today. Go to truck driving school, spend $5, 000 to do it, be a truck driver and make $80, 000 a year, and then find yourself a volunteer fire department and start helping people without ever spending any money to do it. But whatever you do, please do not spend $140, 000 to do the same job that I'm doing now.

For the healthcare question, the only way that an HSA would make sense is if you have enough money in the savings account to cover your maximum out of pocket, because hospital stays are expensive. So what I did was to pick a more expensive plan for the pregnancy and delivery years, and then once they are born and there are no issues, change to the cheaper HSA policy. It will give you greater peace of mind. To figure out the least cost option, add together the cost of premium plus your max out of pocket for mom and baby (because the hospital stay will likely exceed your max out of pocket) and determine which one is cheaper.

I got my ADN at no charge at my local community college. Then later, after almost ten years, I went back to school and got my BSN. No way I would go into debt to get my in Nursing!

41:00 I’m going with hsa more than likely. You aren’t sure what year the baby will come or how much it’ll cost. The hsa plan allows you to have money growing, and tax free for WHENEVER the expenses come. Money towards a premium sounds like a bad deal. UNLESS the hsa plan has a deductible that’s like 5000. Weigh that out.

1:17:12 (George contributes 15% in his Roth 401K @ Ramsey Solutions, but mentioned 'we get a match on top of that.' I thought the Roth had no match to it? I assume he meant in addition to the Roth 401k, he has the option to put in more (to achieve the pre-tax Traditional 401k match??)

Ryann could probably transition from Engineering into Architecture more quickly with night school then while working in Architecture could get the carpentry skills that a good firm may even pay to increase skills they can use.

I believe we should be living for today because the future is in real question right now. 21 and 30?

My life was way more enjoyable when I didn’t care about the future. Now I’m more financially wiser with no debt ( thanks to Dave) life sucks more now for some reason.

Robert Kyosaki says I should do the exact opposite of what I am hearing on this radio show. So I feel the only way to settle this is for Dave and Robert to fight it out in a live televised event. The winner of this fight will gain internet cred.

If you need a super reliable car that’s also great on gas for 5k or under, get a Toyota Corolla! You’re welcome 😉
