I totally understand that you're thinking of morning time not so much in terms of "high school credits" but more as at least some part of the day that your two can spend time together. The 9th grader and 4th grader in our family are on very different levels, and were doing nearly everything separate, and adapting our schedule this year to do some of the non-core work TOGETHER has been a positive change. :)

I love hearing your updates for this year! I'm so glad they are fixing the tech issues, I was concerned that would be an issue this year because o the influx of homeschoolers.
We are LOVING the Masterbooks God's Design series as well!

First year homeschooling family and I don’t think I’ve ever commented. I love watching your videos. I have two boys ages 12 and 6. With one of my sons preparing to take high school courses next year, I really love seeing the long term progress you’ve had with your oldest. I’m eager to see how you are planning for college admission for her, and the steps as a homeschooler as you navigate that process. We are loving homeschooling and quite honestly, I wish we had discovered this sooner. Thank you for your videos and eagerness to share your journey. For a first time homeschooling family, your videos and insight are very helpful. Thank you!

I love your updates. I am especially interested in following Katie's journey because I have a 7th grader currently. He is a VERY reluctant student tho so Katie's schedule would probably put him over the edge lol. We love most of the curriculum we use (science needs a change) but this is our first year so I expected that could happen.

You are very thorough and easy to understand. I take notes when I watch your videos to do some research on my own to find out if there is anything I want to include in my daughter's homeschool adventure. Thanks!!

You’re doing a bang up job despite all the roadblocks you’ve had recently! Please keep sharing how you are navigating your homeschool journey. It’s such an encouragement.

We’re just getting into our new school year. Our daughter is 8th grade level, but because of learning differences, vision impairment, surgeries, etc. she hasn’t been able to do a full load every year. I feel like we are playing catch up trying to prepare her for high school. We’ll still homeschool through high school because her neuropsychologist said that is what is best for her.

It's nice to hear your school year is off to a great start. Ours has been going well for the most part. We started at the end of August. There have been a lot of learning curves this year as we started dual enrollment and all of the technology issues associated with that, as well as a new career tech program in exercise science. We also are using Digital Savvy from Compuscholar and are really enjoying it.

It’s good you’re taking a break (bookwork) for Sophie and seeing what happens next. I’m sure it’s such a challenge. I know many kids that have dyslexia seem to do better with just memorization. I have had this with my girls who had a problem. (It’s improved for them over time) It’s so good she can read when others said that would be near impossible! God is good and she’s a smart girl!

Our first year is going well so far- we started mid-August. I’ve been doing some tweaking to find the right level for my 8th grader, especially in history. I’m looking forward to hearing how you simplified

Love these homeschool updates so much! ;) The girls are doing so great. I like the way you're going back and forth with different resources for Sophie as she needs them. Moving at her pace will go such a long way toward her success and she'll be so much happier, too! :) Our year is also going really smoothly. I'm down to only 3 this year, in 11th, 9th, and 7th grades, as our two oldest have graduated. Like you, it's probably our best, smoothest year yet! I was wondering, with the government course, are you using just Gather Round, or pulling in other resources for high school credit? How are you structuring the extra novels for Honors literature....read and write a paper? I loved this video so much. So happy things are going smoothly for you this year! :)

Thank you so much for this video! I also have a CAS kiddo and it is hard. I am always looking for tips/ideas for teaching reading. My little one is 5 years old. It breaks my heart that they told you she wouldn't be able to read. Kids are incredible and love to surprise us. We are working through TGTB Primer K to take a slow approach to reading for similar reasons as you. I appreciate the reminder that it is okay to pause a subject and practice before moving forward.

So glad it’s a smooth start to the year. ❤️

I got beginning of the year/first trimester of pregnancy burnout in August because we started in early July. We were doing a little better, but then the Oregon fires started and we were evacuated for 6 days. We’ve been back for almost 2 weeks and are trying really hard to get back in the groove. It’s me though, not my daughter. 🤦🏻‍♀️

We moved back in December and the 2nd half of our 2019/2020 homeschool year ran really smoothly. Maybe it is something about new starts and renewed enthusiasm. Our 2020/2021 school year (although we are year round) began back in July, and has not gone smoothly at all. We have had illness and broken bones, and so many changes to restrictions backwards and forwards due to Covid in our area that life has been unsettled. We can only pray the year improves. So pleased to hear that your year is going well so far, and I pray it continues to do so.

You're doing such a great range of subjects. We're doing Abeka but I always wondered what it would be like to use tgatb! You're such a good mom, having a special needs child is such a blessing and you're doing such a great job with her 🙂
