I don’t want to diminish how amazing The Downward Spiral is, but this arguably Trent’s masterpiece (of course, so is TDS…you can have more than one with a catalog like Trent’s). I identified with this so much with this album. I was 19 and there was a lot of uncertainty coming into adulthood. At the time that this came out, there was something so electric in the air amongst nine inch nails fan, we’d anticipated this album soooo much and without social media, we were all just ready and waiting for September 21, 1999 to arrive.

If I’m not mistaken I saw a teaser commercial on January 1 1999 and it got me excited, I was working night shift at the time and my boyfriend at the time went out and bought the album for me and brought it to me on lunch I was so happy also Tori Amos released To Venus And Back the same day I got both

I remember that time, that double CD digipack, those pixelated colorful pages. And its transfer to my minidisc, where it traveled along with Aphex Twin Druqks, A Perfect Circle's debut. Holy crap!

I remember driving around all over town to various Tower Records locations, to track down a copy of The Day The World Went Away single on release day.

I got this album for Christmas when it first came out! I loved it but at 13 it took me many years to fully digest.
