No wonder why he seemed so angry as the Grinch. It was probably authentic lol

Literally no one else could pull off this role but Jim Carrey

You know smoking a cigarette beating himself in the leg and eating everything in sight actually sounds exactly like the Grinch

He NAILED the role. Might be the greatest performance of his career. Especially considering the circumstances he was under.

The things that actors go through to entertain people. I couldn't imagine having to go through that.

For one of those days of shooting, Ron Howard spent the whole day dressed up in full Grinch makeup to get an idea of what he was putting Jim through. Now that’s what you call a good director.

Jim's CIA advice is actually very good. When I wake from a nightmare, instead of laying there still traumatised I would get up to get something to eat etc. to break my thought cycle. So I'm taking more of these tips onboard!

Jim did such a fantastic job on the Grinch. I can imagine him going through hours of torture.

I just rewatched it and based on his caliber as an actor, I can see why, at face value, folks might not see this as a top performance for him BUT knowing that this was over 2 decades ago when no leading role had been "monster make up" since The Fly, Jim being able to provide a performance that was engaging for kids is truly a testament to his stamina as a performer and I think he did rely on a lot of muscles/skills he honed doing standup and I think that's why the performance is the way it is. I know that had this film been attempted with our current updates to special effects make up and such - speed and conform wise - Jim might then have been able to give a more layered performance. But damn, I can see why he would never want to do a project like that again.

800 hours total of makeup!! Thats way too intense for me. But I guess when your paid 20, 000, 000 for a 6 month job, it makes it a bit easier.

i am so super appreciative of Jim Carrey, i was getting abused at a very young age and the Grinch was my favorite movie and escape from it. i have fond memories of watching it over and over. excellent movie. i hope he’s reminded every day how much his work has lifted so many people’s spirits.
