As a 40 trees orchard owner (and maintainer 😆) just one little but very important advice you maybe forget to mention, noticed on that first apple you show how to cut(great work btw, notebook worth) you had few so called mummified fruits, those fruits can be full of bad fungus spores, it's important to take them of the tree and rake them and REMOVE from orchard those spores not to become airborne and spread trough orchard. Happy gardening everyone 😁

Greetings from northeastern California!
I am an arborist who recently began watching Laura. My sister sends me the videos.

If you follow closely what you were shown here, your pruning skills will be off to a GOOD start. What I don't recommend is tuning in to just any tree pruning video on YouTube. There are a lot of them. And a lot of those guys are untrained. And often do what an older relative said, which was often before the excellent and sensible developments we have now.

Good sources for information are the Sunset book for your area, anything by Dr Alex Shigo, and a couple others.

I have intended to write Laura anyway. But I chimed in here quickly when someone wrote in, encouraging just any YT pruning video.

You are on to something good here. It is a fine foundation.
Laura says there will be more, so stay tuned here.

Great informative video as always Laura! I just want to point out (I work in a laboratory that uses alcohol to sterlize things) that *how* you apply the alcohol is really important. Alcohol works to disinfect things via evaporation (which breaks apart cell membranes) so it is key to allow the alcohol to evaporate off. It's also important to use the right concentration of alcohol - it needs to contain 70% alcohol as any more will evaporate too quickly to be effective and any less will be too dilute to be effective. Your trees seem pretty healthy so it shouldn't be much of a concern, but I wanted to share for anyone else who is interested.

PS - I love how you're always giving Paul and Bethany so much credit for all their hard work! Truely well deserved and I love to see people building others up!

Laura, I just had to thank you for this. This will be my first year to prune my new apple trees and this was SO helpful. I absolutely LOVE your channel as is but I am always SUPER grateful when you do a teaching type of video. I’m an old gardener who loves learning new tricks. lol Thank you for all you and Aaron do to help this BEAUTIFUL community. I am sincerely grateful. God Bless you and your sweet family. ~Lisa

I'm glad you mentioned water sprouts. I think a lot of people see the vigorous growth of these and think that is a good healthy thing, but fruit grows mostly on lateral branches and water sprouts are just taking energy from the rest of the tree. Great video! I have taught tree pruning and this was very thorough and easy to follow.

Hello from south Texas, 73° this morning up to 80° afternoon. Lovely all week. I don't own land, or tree, just a sliver of patio & pots. Yet even on a tiny level, can't wait to pot up and beautify my space. Enjoy your videos so much, everyday. Admire y'all's hard work, skill & knowledge. God bless your family and the USA.

I buy insect candles in the spring from dollar general or dollar tree. They come in a larger metal container. When we have an early season frost warning I put the lighted pots under the tree or bush with either small tarp or small sheet tied over the top. It has saved many plants for me.

I always break into laughter when I’m watching your video and an ad begins to play that is you! This morning as you were pruning the orchard, my ad was you describing your seed starting trays! Can’t get too much Laura!

I am so grateful for the GA team! I am a mom of two small boys in Minnesota, watching this video as we gradually get 1-2 feet of snow dumped on us today. I usually love the snow but today I am sick with a terrible sore throat and achy body. But boy, this pruning video (and my morning caffeine) are bringing me back to life! Just in time to get my boisterous, silly little boys ready for the day.😊

I don’t have any fruit trees but still loved watching your tutorial! There’s just something about you Laura, that makes me watch everything, even though I’m not able to garden as you do ( zone 3b ). You are a gifted instructor! 🇨🇦

I actually like the water sprout trimmings for craft projects. Nice long straight sticks that can work for woven baskets, fencing, plant supports, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs - well you get it.

Cheddar was being sweet this morning! It’s usually Russel that’s vying for attention. Spring is definitely in the air in NC but I know that March always brings a gnarly storm so I’m hoping all the new growth survives!

Good Morning! 🍏 I agree with you on keeping the trees pretty but yet productive! My Father in law past away last summer. He had several fruit trees that he cared for, I am going to take over the care of what trees are left - just a few cherry trees. This video came along at the right time! Thank you for this refresher! 🌳✂️🍎🍐🍒

Laura, just a tip about sanitizing your tools; douse the towel and then use the towel to wipe
