This One Condition Made This Patient an Expert at Fainting #pots Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a complex and often debilitating condition that primarily affects the autonomic nervous system. It is characterized by a significant increase in heart rate when transitioning from a lying or sitting position to a standing one. Here's an overview of POTS: Autonomic Dysfunction: POTS is a form of dysautonomia, a condition where the autonomic nervous system doesn't function properly. This system controls involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. Orthostatic Intolerance: The hallmark symptom of POTS is orthostatic intolerance, which means that individuals with POTS struggle to maintain blood pressure and heart rate when upright. Upon standing, heart rate increases by 30 beats per minute or more within 10 minutes, leading to symptoms. Common Symptoms: People with POTS often experience symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, palpitations, fatigue, brain fog, nausea, sweating, and headaches when standing. These symptoms can severely impact daily life. Potential Causes: The exact cause of POTS is not always clear, but it can develop following viral infections, surgery, trauma, or other triggers. There is often a genetic predisposition. Diagnosis: POTS is typically diagnosed through a tilt-table test, during which a patient's heart rate and blood pressure are monitored while they are tilted from a lying to an upright position. Treatment: Managing POTS often involves a combination of lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, exercise, and medications. Treatment is tailored to each individual's needs. Improvement Over Time: Some individuals with POTS may experience significant improvement in symptoms over time with appropriate treatment and lifestyle modifications. Chronic Condition: POTS can be a chronic condition, and while it may improve with time, it can also fluctuate in severity. Long-term management is often necessary. Quality of Life: POTS can impact a person's quality of life, making it challenging to engage in everyday activities. Support from healthcare professionals, family, and friends is crucial. Research and Awareness: Ongoing research is essential to better understand POTS and improve treatment options. Increased awareness can lead to earlier diagnosis and improved outcomes for those affected. #POTS #PosturalOrthostaticTachycardiaSyndrome #Dysautonomia #AutonomicDysfunction #OrthostaticIntolerance #ChronicIllness #InvisibleIllness #HeartRate #HealthAwareness #MedicalCondition #SymptomManagement #QualityOfLife #POTSResearch #TreatmentOptions #SupportiveCare #PatientAdvocacy #AutonomicNervousSystem #LifestyleManagement #NeurologicalDisorder #Dizziness #ChronicFatigue #BrainFog #fyp #fypシ #medicine

I find it interesting that she has low blood pressure instead of high blood pressure because it’s most of the time high but as someone who has dealt with high and low blood pressure. High is much worse

I'm not sure if I have POTs or PVCs because every time I stand up or do anything physical activity my heart starts racing and beating fast, makes me a bit dizzy and nauseous at times. I got prescribed metoprolol tartrate but even when I split the low dose to 12.5mg calms my heart a bit but drops my BP too low, not sure what else to do.

I searched "why do my heartbeat go fast when I stand up" and turns out I have PoTS. They say daily exercise can manage it so I'm gonna exercise from now on...
