The USA is HUGE! I was born on the east coast and have lived here my whole life, but there is still so much I haven't seen. I've always wanted to do a cross-country trip by train. Thank you for documenting your journey.

As an Aussie tourist, our first ever time travelling overseas was to visit our friend in Ohio in 1989. We landed in San Francisco (7 days before the quake) and trained our way on a sleeper for 3 days to Chicago. Best trip ever. We travelled for 6 weeks within the USA on an Amtrak Pass. Chicago to Mansfield, Ohio. Our friend drove from Colombus to pick us up in Mansfield. We had 8 days in Columbus and then flew to Cleveland and caught the train to Buffalo. Niagara Falls to New York. New York to Washington. Washington to New Orleans. Had to fly from New Orleans to Las Vegas. Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Flew from LA to Hawaii and then home. If time permits, train is my first choice. We were able to see so much and met so many people.

I made this trip a yr before pandemic till chicago, it was summer & it was gorgeous, from emeryville till utah, its beautiful, going through the rockies in the observation deck, simply amazing, saw the wild horses near the lake, crossing the huge rivers, mountains, the plains, the desert, its a ride to remember .

I was a BNSF Engineer on a coal train out of Denver that uses the same track as Amtrak, a single main track. One night, the Eastbound Amtrak Zepher had a problem with their lead engine. Between the Amtrak Engineer and the Dispatcher, an attempt was made to set their lead engine on a siding. I don’t know much about Amtrak engines, but with their lead unit dead, it took several hours to restore the second unit and move the train. One BIG problem was that the second unit was facing the wrong way! However, they managed to set out their lead unit, but, for whatever reason, they had lost control of their second unit again. The siding was plenty long enough to handle their entire train, but they managed to stall it with four cars still on the main track. By this time, I was in a siding waiting for Amtrak, and it had been around five hours. Lots of drama and colorful lingo was being exchanged on the radio between Dispatch and Amtrak. Then Dispatch directs Amtrak to disembark their passengers and load them up in busses to continue to Chicago. After nearly twelve hours, BNSF sent two locomotives to hook onto the rear of the Amtrak train, shove it forward and hook up their defective lead unit then haul the Amtrak train back to Denver, about fifty miles. I was relieved about four hours later by another crew, sixteen hours on that train for me, and had only gone about seventy-five miles.

I did coach from NYC to Sacramento and thoroughly loved the whole trip. I was the sole occupant of the double seat set up for 98% of the trip and slept quite well. I love the train !

I've taken that exact NYC to San Francisco a total of five times. Beautiful ride, great food, and the scenery was SPECTACULAR. I'm now priced out of that trip, , , retired now and on a fixed income. Just one more time, is actually on my bucket list.

I have made this trip several times each way (except from-to Boston, not NYC). This was the route that made my wife fall in love with train travel. And yes, I would do it again.

I live in San Francisco, and a trip to New York on Amtrak is on my "bucket list."

My wife and I did the trip in 1989.

Your film brought back a lot of memories.

Without doubt the best way to see American and meet its friendly citizens.

We have travelled all over the world since but remains the best trip we have ever done.

Ah the California Zephyr... I just did that trip last year. One of the best decisions of my life. Where the quality of the food and the people you meet is as excellent as the views you'll spot on the trip. I'll be taking it again very soon for sure.

Thank goodness you concentrated on scenery instead of detailed look at every inch of the sleeping accommodations. I've done this trip out and back twice, love it. Also ridden many other routes. The true Amtrak dining car is exceptional; the "flexible" maybe a step above airline. Amtrak will be truly recovered when all over night routes have real dining cars, even in the east!

For me train stations are magic places because one minute you are in Downtown, surrounded by people, vehicles and lots of noise; you cross the doors, walk a little and there you are, sitting in Regal solitude and surrounded by coziness. No noise, no pickpockets, no nothing, just peace and excitement at what lies ahead. Beautiful video. Thank you.

Absolutely a wonderful trip and way to cross the U.S. It sure beats sitting in a jammed up 767 with your knees up your nose. While the train is slower, it is so restful. Thank you for the great video!

You were so lucky, you saw 3 of Amtraks rare heritage locomotives! In Albany the locomotive leading your train was 100, the Midnight Blue 50th Anniversary locomotive, then the locomotive on your California Zephyr was 184, the 40th Anniversary Phase 4 locomotive, and in Denver you passed 130, the 40th Anniversary Phase 2 locomotive. That is so rare
