chess ratings is like money it loses value over time, when bobby fisher got his highest rating in 1972 (2785) he had 125 ratings points more than spassky, when kasparov got his highest rating in 1999 (2851) he had 81 points more than kramnik, magnus got his highest rating in 2014 (2872) and after him levon with 2812 only 60points away from number 2.When magnus breaks through 2900 he is with no doubt the best of all time
