Wouldn't it be great to have a search box in Excel you can use to ask any question? Like to create dummy data, create a formula or ask about the cast of the The Sopranos. And then artificial intelligence provides the information directly in Excel - without any copy and pasting!

In this video you'll learn how to setup an API connection from Microsoft Excel to Open AI's ChatGPT (GPT-3) by using Office Scripts.

As a bonus I'll show you how you can parse the result if the answer from GPT-3 is in more than 1 line. This makes it easier to use the information in Excel.

If you get the following error: "Line 46: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘0’)" - It's probably because the API key was not input in the right place or is incorrect - or you need to update the gpt version used. Please double check on OpenAI or create a new API key.

Great VDO (again). My I suggest, as a possible improvement, that you could also ask chatGPT to "give me the result in 2 columns so I can use it in Excel". You'll get the result directly formatted into a tabular reponse 🙂

Example script uses model "text-davinci-002" which is not in use anymore. I got this working by replacing that with "gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct"
It's line 18.

ChatGPT didn't know where the problem was, but it helped me get proper error message and there find the correct error.
