Last week, it was announced that scientists discovered an ocean's worth of water near the Earth's core! Dr. Carin Bondar joins DNews this week to discuss what we can learn from discovering this massive amount of water!

Read More:
New evidence for oceans of water deep in the Earth
"Researchers from Northwestern University and the University of New Mexico report evidence for potentially oceans worth of water deep beneath the United States. Though not in the familiar liquid form -- the ingredients for water are bound up in rock deep in the Earth's mantle -- the discovery may represent the planet's largest water reservoir."

Massive 'ocean' discovered towards Earth's core
"A reservoir of water three times the volume of all the oceans has been discovered deep beneath the Earth's surface. The finding could help explain where Earth's seas came from."

..I usually don't mind any voice or people reporting things but the way she reported this.. It feels so.. forced. It's like she's trying so hard to act.. :/

Good video, but you are misleading people with a falsehood in the title you have chosen for it. Since when is a depth of 400 miles considered to be "near the Earth's core"? The mantle alone is almost 1800 miles thick.

"What's big, and wet" *Hehehe* "and located 400 miles beneath the US?" *Oh...*

We have very different definitions of the word "near". In what way is 650km almost 2850km?

Q: There's a huge amount of fresh preserved water beneath the earth surface. Can we exploit it?
A: No
Q: yay science!!

no no no no....leave....leave....i dont like this host she is dull and boring

this host annoys me because it seems like she is making fun of what she is saying, not counting the inaccuracies in the video.

0:57 inccorect, the Kola superdeep borehole almost reached 8 miles deep, thats a lot more than 2.5 miles.

1:15 thats very sloppy wording. your putting phases and chemical bonds into the same catagory. if its bonded to a mineral it isnt water. its just a molecule with water in it. you wouldnt call Ethanol "ethyl" because it has an ethyl group in it's molecule would you? i can't find any good resources on what your describing though. most people talking about "EZwater" say it has "special" power

1:46 what discovery? you havent said how they discovered it. measuring magnetic fields? testing for hydroxyl radicals in rock samples? your not being very clear.

2:28 no, fresh water isn't a resource that is "declining" we are outpacing the rate at witch new fresh water can be produced naturally. and tapping into new sources of fresh water wouldnt solve our problems of using too much.

this came off as a very incoherent video.

Let's try not to tell too many people about this water. Just another thing to pollute.

Oh, and I like the new host. Keep her.

Weird how people find her boring while i really like the way she talks about stuff. I for one hate the senseless enthusiasm that is so prevalent among internet shows.

I guess Freedom will be visiting 643.7 km beneath the earth.

She is nice but I feel she is trying to hard to be animated, her facial expressions are over done, it feels like she is trying to explain something to kindergarteners.

Very misleading title. I guess the word "ocean" sells to the gullible, however the word "Ringwoodite" doesn't. This "ocean" is in fact rock.

why is everyone complaining about the new host?

That is not really water and they shouldn't be calling it water.

A fourth form? That's intriguing. I love how there's still so much to learn about familiar things we thought we already understood.

It kinda, sorta was a dead giveaway from the start that water would be down there, it was the form it was in that was the question mark. Question is, did all that water come from the surface or are we dealing with trapped water from the formation of the planet, if so, then does the moon have such a thing trapped deep in it and can we access it seeing as it's dead as a donkey and there wouldn't be issues associated with mining through lava?

I wish Carin Bondar would continue doing her Wild Sex videos on Earth Touch. She stopped doing it after she has started to make appearances on Science Channel. It must be a network contract in the midst of Discovery Networks preventing her from putting out her own content.
