This is a wonderful move. It allows right-sized parking that fits the needs of the context, rather than a one (suburban) size-fits-all mandate. In cities that have removed mandates, developers build more parking in areas that need it and less in those that need less of it. What this does is remove arbitrary barriers to building less car-centric places as our transit, bike, and pedestrian infrastructure develops.

I wonder how much money the "lobbyists" for the developers have greased the palms of council members.

This is just the beginning guys. This is going to happen all over America. No parking up top but guess what there’s gonna be parking below ground Elon Musk is a genius the boring company.

Funny stuff. They just announced that the rail system is a total failure.

Fortunately the era of self-driving cars makes taxi services more reliable and less expensive than owning a car - at least in urban areas. It would be worthwhile to look up Brad Templeton's blog about robocars. The upshot is that far fewer parking spaces will be needed.

I don't live in Austin nor in the US, but this bill is ridiculous, whoever came up with this idea should visit cities around the world where there is almost no parking, to see the problem this causes for the entire city and its population.

Austin has one of the best public transportation systems in the country. They just need to clean up the rifraf so that it is something people can use for work. They literally allow people with two shopping carts of garbage to get on the buses. They allow people to sleep on the buses. It is like every horror story you hear about nyc subways.
