If you’re thinking about this cam....

1. Internal audio is absolutely usable with an external mic (Rode or Zoom etc)
2. You absolutely do NOT need a portable recorder, SSD cards work fine, make sure you Buy the correct type.
3. You can absolutely use a shoulder rig to achieve stable footage.
4. You can see the screen everywhere except direct sunlight. You will need a viewfinder or monitor to use in direct sunlight.
5. The battery life actually is really bad. 30 mins tops on one battery.

I know because I’ve had mine for 5 years, completed a feature film with it, and will NEVER sell.

These cameras have gone way up in price. They are starting to be collectors items. The good thing is, Kingston makes memory cards for them now that work with no problem. You can get new cages for them now with HDMI locks, so you don't damage the fragile HDMI port. You can get a Smallrig NPF battery adapter for them now, so the battery last over 2.5 hours. A simple color space transform in Davinci will get your raw files looking fantastic, and you can tweak from there. If you need a better screen, you can add a cheap monitor. You can rig it out and it will still fit on your average gimbal. You can put on a Wireless Go and get good audio. There are better cameras out there, but the OG will force you to get better, since you have to do everything manually, plus they are fun to use.

For anyone thinking about picking one up FYI - New SD cards have not been working on it. So try and get one with the camera that the seller can guarantee works with it. If not do a lot of research and make sure you get one that will work.

Update: Was on the phone with both Sandisk and Blackmagic. They basically told me to get an old UHS-I card without the v3 symbol, new v3 cards will not work. Retailers may still be carrying some old ones. One post I read also reported Kingston Canvas React UHS-I cards work as well. I’m gonna try one out. I’ll try and update this again with my results. Oh yeah Blackmagic said one other company might work called Delkin.

This camera is beautiful and professional I bought it two years ago and I just now rig it out with all the bells and whistles and I have Adobe Premiere and resolve and there's a lot of awesome Endless Possibilities with this camera.
I had to be patient and learn how to color grade white balance and then I ended up buying follow Focus a monitor different filters different lenses in the speedbooster it was so worth it.
I almost bought the gh5 or the Blackmagic 4K but when I saw this and the price I bought it and just save my money and my patience to learn how to use it was worth it.

Ironically the value of this camera went up. I remember people selling them for $350 - $400 now people are selling them for $550 - $900. I got one cheeper, but I was lucky.

BMPCC 1080 doesn't have a touch screen. This is my go to camera. Nothing beats it in form and IMAGE QUALITY! It's filmic look is just amazing. Can't say enough positive things about this camera.

Dont buy batteries for this camera. Buy an "EXTERNAL" battery. It lasts for HOURS!

Audio wise? I connect my phone to the Rhode mic.

I have one, fully rigged. It's my A cam. It's image is superior to the 4k or 6k "big brothers". You would have to have a big bag of cash to get me to part with it.

It looks like (at this stage) I can get this for under 500 quid. Is this still the best thing in that range for a cinematic aesthetic? What do you think of Fujifilm X-T20 and the like? I'm also thinking of one of the older Canon 5D range as a possibility.

One helpful tips I found is that you can connect a cable from the line-out of a Zoom H1 into the mic-in port of the BMPCC and use the Zoom as a pre-amp to record decent in camera audio.

One more thing I want to double check with this camera, , I've heard that it doesn't take photos, , does it, ? and it's only produced for filming and cinematography production... am I right?
