An Introduction to CUDA Programming

In this video, Nvidia's Cliff Woolley provides a whiteboard introduction to CUDA programming.

Watching this video in 2021 was not only nostalgic, but refreshing, especially with the old-school drawing on the whiteboard. This was better than many of my undergrad classes: clear, concise, and not something I could have easily read in a book in the same amount of time.

TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS: 
1)   Can anyone buy an NVidia based graphic card and start to do GPU CUDA programming?    What is the difference between buying a graphic card at a retailer or buying a dedicated GPU card from NVidia (difference between the two cards from the point-of-view of the user)?

2)   When not playing video games, like when working on word processor, or browsing the Are the CUDA cores available for calculations?   Please clarify this topic of availability of CUDA cores.
