The main reason that soft power is growing in Korea is due to growing freedom of expression. It's not possible for an authoritarian country like China to have a lot of soft power. Freedom of expression is necessary for any country to gain soft power. Unfortunately, 60 percent of the world population is under authoritarian regimes, like Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and China. South Korea and NATO armed forces have made an enormous sacrifice in achieving freedom of expression and democratic values. Soft power=freedom of expression.

I'm a weeaboo and I can agree, "Cool Japan" is over. The Koreans have won the global interest. Especially post-covid, Japan has little interest attracting overseas people anymore
