Pro Colorado Tip: Where ever you find your dream cabin, try to choose an unincorporated county like Park County (Bailey, Fairplay, Town of Jefferson). The sales taxes in Park County are far far less than counties like Boulder, Denver or Jeffco (Golden, Morrison, Conifer, etc.). This will save you a TON of money! We grew up in the Denver metro area before moving to Bailey and the move saved us thousands per year on things like property tax, car registration and even the purchase of our house. Good luck and I'm really excited for you guys!

A tip for opening champagne is to put a towel over the cork. You firmly hold the cork and rotate and "unscrew" the bottle. This way the cork is trapped underneath the towel and you have much more control of opening the champagne. Cheers!

Allison getting in the hot tub was the funniest thing 😂 I live in Finland by the coast and love ice swimming, saunas, and hot tubs so the wind and a toasty hot tub would suit me really well 🫢

Remote Colorado is someplace I really enjoy visiting. But I choose to live outside Boulder. For the little things, like grocery stores, cell service, internet, bookstores. Hospitals, urgent care centers, you know - the little things. :) Welcome to Colorado.

To open Champagne, don’t pop the cork, slowly twist the cork off. You can use a dish towel, to cover the cork. You’ll hear a satisfying poof, and the bottle will be a perfect pour. Please just make sure, wherever you buy, have a good water source, with a reliable well, or town water. Even though there’s snow, high altitude desert is common. 🤷‍♀️

Definitely check out southwest Colorado. Especially in the Fall. I could go there every year and never get tired of it.

One thing to also consider when looking for places in Colorado is the wind can get REALLY BAD in spots for long periods of time throughout the year and it can make certain time really unpleasant.

Im from Florida, used to live in Loveland Co. It's where my heart will always be. Nothing as beautiful as Colorado.

Good choice for a rental. For Colorado mountains February is usually the coldest. March and April usually the snowiest. Stay aware of altitude when looking at property. The higher you go, the more snow you get - like 8 months of snow for 9000ft and above. I think 7500ft with south-facing exposure is an ideal mix of all we have to offer. Enjoy the exploring. Just one pro tip for you - quality sunglasses. Please get some. Sun glare can be problematic. Love you guys.

Hi Allison. I work in wine and can confirm that you can open sparkling wine safely at home by twisting the bottle on a flat surface and gently cupping and lifting the cork with your hand over it. No fear!

When my family lived in Alaska, the sniw bliwing across the road was known as "snow snakes" (The snow snakes are really out in force today).

Colorado native here with a recommendation! I highly recommend looking near Buena Vista and the surrounding areas. Easy access to both Colorado Springs, Denver, and ski towns, but is FAR more affordable and incredibly beautiful. It is a great spot that we go to often for weekend getaways! Has a cute old downtown with Eddyline Brewery, is close to several hot springs, and is situated right next to the Arkansas River and Collegiate Peaks. Being from Colorado Springs I am also partial to the Woodland Park area too!

Beautiful. I'm not a tidy enough person to have open shelving like that. Plus stuff could get dusty/dirty if it's not used frequently, and I don't want to have to wash it every time before I even use it. You do look like you are loving Colorado.

TV's above the fire look great but are a pain in the neck to watch.

An option you may want to look at when you build your own place is mounting the TV on a lowering bracket, so you can pull it down to a comfortable position when actually watching it, or leave it high when it is on for background or workouts.

The Snitching Lady Distillery in Fairplay is awesome! Ask for Sam to make you an old fashioned. You won't be disappointed.

We looked at property there and the locals all said they get very bad high winds. We thought our cabin was going to blow away that night. They weren't lying!

Always important when you’re looking remote- the community and people are just as important if not more! You’ll need your neighbors, money won’t fix every problem. So if you run through a community and feel unsure, or don’t like what you’re hearing in a diner pass on. Also consider the long term basics- is there a solid physician, dentist etc pharmacy. An hour or two sounds simple to drive into the city but it’ll get old real fast and may not be possible in an emergency situation.

Hi from UK, a tip I was told to uncork Champagne is, don't twist the cork, but twist the bottle and its a lot easier to open. And by the way it works.
