14 years ago, my dad’s body was found on a beach in Mexico. It seemed like an accident, then I found the letters he left behind. That moment has defined my whole life. I’ve always dreamed of going to that beach myself and making a video there with my sister. Now, I’m very proud to say I did.

Lyrics:
Black fins
Waiting for the tide to roll
Back in
Soakin in the sun
And I know
It’s just another
Little piece of ocean trash
And not you
Just a little ghost I keep around
Funny shadow always hangin out
If you ashes sprang to life
Would you just let me down?
Would you leave those kids again
And kick’em outta town?
I guess we’ll never know
I’ll just be here wondering what
Made you choose to go
The day that you went down to Mexico
Black fins
Full of life again and suddenly
It’s all pretend
Every manic word you wrote us
Now there’s time to mend
Every broken heart that you left
In your gust of wind
No more little ghost I keep around
No more funny shadow in my house
If your ashes sprang to life
Would you come let me down?
Would you leave those kids again
And kick them out of town?
I guess we’ll never know
I’ll just be here wondering what
Made you want to go
The day that you went down to Mexico
Black fins
One more metaphor for scuba gear
Black fins
Wish I woulda known you through the years
Black fins
Wish I never went to Illinois
Black fins
Filling up on milk and Chips Ahoy
Black fins
