It starts with the healthiest seedlings.

To have a successful gardening season, you want the best and healthiest seedlings. For most of us, January is the time to start thinking about what to plant in our garden and when to start our seeds.

Here’s a quick guide on how we germinate our seeds and help them develop into strong plants.

START BY CHOOSING YOUR SOIL MIX.
Here’s a mix that has been working for us. Soaked coco coir / Peat, which ever you choose is up to you. Worm casting, we get ours free from our vermicompost. *If these aren’t available to you, a seed starting soil mix can be purchased. Because we presoak the coir, we found that it isn’t necessary to soak our seeds and or water after planting seeds.

USE A COVER
To keep the moisture from escaping, a cover is valuable during the first week of germination. It regulates temperature and helps avoid overwatering. Clear covers are best to allow light to pass through GROW LIGHTS A good grow light can make the difference between having a lanky plant vs a short strong plant. Especially if they are going to be indoors for several months before they go outdoors into the ground. Make sure to rotate them if they start to lean towards the light.

STRENGTHENING THE STEMS
A fan can help with plant movements or you can gently move the top of the seedlings with your hands to imitate wind movement.

TRANSPLANTING When seedling have at least 2-4 true leaves they can be up potted into a slightly larger container to give it space for more growth. When transplanting outdoors, you’ll need to harden them for a week before planting in the final spot. #gardening101 #gardeningtips #gardening #VIVOSUN #lovewhatyougrow #sponsored
