I would be very happy for you to make a full video on this. The utility of understanding USB protocols and specifically PD is massive. 65W / 100W PD bricks are getting super inexpensive and I'd imagine the newer 140W / 240W / 480W capable models aren't far behind.

PD is very useful, but pushing 20v to a 12v fan is a great way to burn it's coils out or randomly pop an IC on-board . I've killed some fans just with 18v. 15v is probably the highest I'd want to go if I want the fan to survive. capacitor dielectric breakdown is also often rated 16v/25v/50v, those fit nicely just under the 15v and 20v steps. So that's another reason 20v might poof it.

Is the fan rated for 24V or so? I'm surprised it handled such a high voltage.

Problem is, plenty of cheap "PD" power supplies will only provide 5V or 9V. Many won't do 12V, 15V, or 20V - and OF COURSE they don't say in the listing :(

The solution is to only buy chargers that specify what voltages they supply, or ones with reviews testing them! (Praise the reviewers with usb test devices). Anker, like the one in the video, is usually fine.

Love using these for powering LED strips - often they're cheaper and smaller than standalone 12V bricks. I also would love to convert a guitar pedal power supply to USB-C with a 5V trigger.
